The Daniel Lapp Quartet features a stellar line-up of some of the Westcoast’s finest jazz musicians. This quartet can swing like they were cuttin’ up Birdland in 1948. And they can play it real cool just like the California 50’s sound while capturing vitality and a freshness that makes the music contemporary once again. Drawing largely from the repertoire of Chet Baker, the Daniel Lapp Quartet plays many of the hits from Chet’s recordings while throwing in the occasional original tune. Songs like “My Funny Valentine” and “Let’s Get Lost” are regulars in the DLQ songbook along with Burt Bacharach’s “Close To You” and Elvis Costello’s “Almost Blue". In 1999, at his second New York appearance performing Chet’s music, Daniel discovered that there were five other trumpet playing vocalists in the audience. Word had traveled quickly that this man from Canada’s Westcoast “can really do the Chet thing!” Currently, Daniel is working on a series of plays with a New York playwright based loosely on the life of Chet Baker.

Solo performance - piano and voice
For Louise, music is much more than a vocation; it is, in her own words, the perfect metaphor for life itself.
As such it permeates all that she does, while in the process touching the lives of those around her in a supremely
positive way. Louise Rose is the consummate performer. A talented pianist, vocalist and actress, Louise was formally
trained in piano, organ, voice, conducting and arranging. Some of her studies were with Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington
and Leonard Bernstein. She performs jazz, blues, gospel, standards and draws on an extensive repertoire of original
music. She’ll weave her harmonious web of sounds with her voice and lush piano stylings. The result is velvet and silk.
The response is Ahhh! Louise conducts the 200 voices of the Victoria Good News Choir. Her philosophy about singing and
about much of the rest of life has been passed down to her from her Grandmother, “You are worthy simply because you’re
breathing.” Therefore there are no auditions. Louise coaches the Downbeat Magazine award-winning vocal jazz ensemble
‘Genesis’ (from Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon). She coaches the Victoria High School Rhythm and Blues
Band as well as the students in the Applied Music Programme in Victoria.
